The team lineup appearing in Suicide Squad 2 has reportedly been leaked, and rumors suggest director James Gunn wants Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista to play a role.
Reported by Collider, sources claim the new Suicide Squad will include Ratcatcher, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man and Peacemaker.
These rumors also suggest Gunn is considering Bautista for the role of Peacemaker. Bautista notably said last year that if Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 didn’t use Gunn’s script, he would “ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me.” Earlier this year, MCU head Kevin Feige said Disney is still using Gunn’s script.
The Ratcatcher is a villain from Gotham City first introduced in Detective Comics #585. Once a literal rat catcher, Otis Flannegan has the ability to communicate with and control an army of sewer rats along with utilizing deadly weaponized gasses. These rumors suggest Ratcatcher will actually be played by a woman in the upcoming film, and that Deadshot will play a father figure of sorts to her.
King Shark is a humanoid creature possessing various shark-like features. Born in Hawaii, he possesses superhuman strength, sharp claws and teeth, and sonar capabilities. A version of the character appeared in the most recent episode of The Flash, “King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd.”
Polka-Dot Man is one of the stranger Batman villains – and that’s saying something. Born as Abner Krill, Polka-Dot Man turns the polkadots covering his costume into various weapons, including flying buzzsaws, fists and more.
The mantle of Peacemaker has been assumed by multiple characters, though the rumors say this film will use the original Christopher Smith character. A pacifist so dedicated to peace, he uses violent force as a superhero to prevent more violence. In the comics, he slowly becomes mentally ill and discovers his father was a Nazi death camp commandant, and grows to believe the ghosts of people he’s killed are collected inside his helmet.
It’s important to note that these rumors are just that: rumors. No hard announcements about casting has been revealed for Suicide Squad 2, though recent reports suggested Idris Elba is in talks to replace Will Smith as Deadshot. Other reports suggest the film will include Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Suicide Squad 2 is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
