Pixar Animation Studios announced today that Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer have joined the cast of its upcoming original film, Onward.
Set in a suburban fantasy world, Onward is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 6, 2020. The film follows a couple of teenage elf brothers on a quest to find out if there is still magic left in the world.
“At Pixar, we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth,” said director Dan Scanlon. “This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother.”
Scanlon said that Holland brings “an infectious charm and sincerity that makes you root for him.” He also said that “no one” is funnier than Louis-Dreyfus, who “brings a warmth and loving side to her character.”
Meanwhile, producer Kori Rae noted that Pratt brings a “huge heart and fantastic humor to his character.” She also said that “Octavia can do it all. We’re especially excited about the depth as well as humor that she brings to her character.”
Tom Holland made his own announcement in a video on Instagram, saying “I am lucky enough to be making a Pixar movie. It is called Onward… and I’m so excited to be part of this amazing journey.”
Just yesterday, it was reported that Pixar’s parent company Disney rode superhero films to a historic $7 billion global box office take in 2018. It was the first time Disney hit that mark since 2016.
